When placing the tool with its shortest straight side horizontally, the tool Is symmetrical.
It could be describe as a traditional three story house. However, the top part is curved. The ground floor is a big rectangular window, the mirror template.The first floor has a window with the shape of a concave lens. The second floor shows a window representing the convex lens. In the top and bottom sides of the tool medium sized indents are provided to align the tool on a line, potentially being the median light beam.
At the outside, both lenses have two small indents to identicate the base line.
Pushpin markers are provided at the top surface.

- Draw a horizontal line with the ruler to represent the median light beam.
- Align the tool along this line using the alignment indents.
- Draw along the inner contour to create a mirror, a convex lens or a concave lens.
- Add additional light beams to illustrate reflection and refraction effects.
